In light of the recent catastrophic events due to Hurricane Sandy, I feel the need to encourage a shift and redirection of our priorities. As usual, I have been watching the news and reading posts via Twitter and Facebook. Many of you are very impressed with how quickly our President has responded to Hurricane Sandy. Many of you praise him daily, while others find nothing but fault with him. A lot of us, including myself, became very vocal during the debates but I wonder how many of you are willing to do more than simply post your opinions via social media?
I feel all of this is one huge distraction from who God truly intends for us to be and the direction He wants us to go. In the midst of all this chaos and turmoil, we are forgetting that at the end of the day Obama is still a politician and just a man. He is not your savior, he is not he one that you should put all your hope in; this goes for Romney as well. Hurricane Sandy was a force of nature that is controlled by God. Our trials and tribulations are meant to strengthen us, instill wisdom and bring us closer to God. They do not occur because of who is in office. Yes, it is great to have an immediate response from the White House but let’s not forget, Obama could not afford to react any other way with the election looming ahead of us. Sure, he may have responded the same way despite this fact but that doesn’t make it any less of a fact.
I remember when he visited Colorado after the Aurora movie theater shooting. It was great that our president took time out of his schedule to pay his respects to that horrific tragedy. However, it is no secret that Colorado plays a key part in his re-election. Once again, a fact that cannot be denied. Now, I am not against Obama, in fact, I am in favor of him at the moment. But, that is only because I believe him to be the lesser of the two evils at this point. Honestly, I don’t care for anyone in politics. They all have an agenda and all we can do is hope and pray to GOD that their agenda resembles something similar to what is the greater good for all of us as a whole.
The point of this blog is that we need not put our faith in man as our faith should solely rely with our Heavenly Father. In the midst of national tragedies, it is not simply up to the government to act. It is up to all of us to do our part, pull together as a nation and help one another. Remember who is ultimately in control and it is not mankind. We should all be asking ourselves what can we do to make this world better, help solve our problems and rebuild our nation. Less talk and more action is a rare commodity these days. God’s expectations involve more than simply arguing about who should be president, whose fault the economy really is and for goodness sake, He surely expects more from us than simply getting out to vote.
That’s just my two cents. My faith calls for a lot more than spending time vocally debating who on earth has my best interest at heart. Get out and vote for who you want in office, get out and help those affected by Hurricane Sandy and get out and start making a difference anywhere you can.
